Director’s Statement
B.C. was a project weighing down on me for many years. It was just a matter of getting the message across in an easily digestible manner. The concept was a new one for me; it was not dependant on specific characters or locations, but rather the theme itself. All that was necessary was an animal, and amnesiac android and a locale void of human life, to the point where it was an untouched and serene environment.
When conceiving the concept for B.C., the underlying themes involved were innocence from within an otherwise unsightly shell and symbiosis or a sense of belonging. A military android with an unspeakably bloody past has been left to rot in a frozen wasteland, the memories of its past erased. It’s here that the theme of integration into a society is most prevalent, where a simple penguin is the only father figure guiding this infantile robot who only wants to find its place.
